 Happy New Year Everyone!

Oracle Band New Years Party 2008-2009 at American Legion Post 175Can you believe it?  2009...it hardly seems possible.  It seems like just yesterday we were all worried about the Y2K bug and whether the lights were going to go out at midnight, and here we are almost ten years later!

This year Oracle returned to the American Legion Post 175 in Severna Park Maryland for an evening of music and dancing as we ushered in 2009 and said farewell to 2008.

The sold out party was in full swing from our first song to the last, and we got to renew a lot of friendships with folks we haven't seen for quite some time.

As always the Oracle cameras were busy firing away to document the evening, and we have just gotten the photos edited, cropped, and uploaded to our website.  They are Oracle Band New Years Party 2008-2009 at American Legion Post 175currently on a single web page, and we will ultimately be splitting that up into two pages because of the large number of photos we took, but owing to the demand from folks who want to see the pictures we're getting them online as quickly as possible so everyone can start enjoying them.

Just head on over to the 2008-2009 Oracle Band New Year's Party at American Legion Post 175 Photo Gallery and check out the FUN!

We're already busy at work planning for NEXT New Years, so stay tuned for more information.

Please accept our best wishes for a safe and prosperous New Year!

What A Day at Canton Harbor Harvest Festival

Oracle Band at FutureCare Harvest Festival 2008A couple of weeks ago the band headed up to Canton Harbor in Baltimore for the annual Harvest Festival sponsored by FutureCare Canton.

This was the second appearance by Oracle at this event, and we're pleased to announce that we have been invited back for next years celebration as well!

The weather for the day couldn't have been more perfect.  With crystal blue skies and bright sunshine, the grills effervescing with the aromas of burgers, sausage, and pit beef, and a great crowd of young and young of heart, it was simply spectacular.

The Orioles Bird made an appearance, and get a lot of folks out in front of the band to dance with him.  The bird will turn 30 next year, but he certainly doesn't look his age. We can remember back to the day he was hatched on the field at Memorial Stadium inOracle Band at FutureCare Harvest Festival 2008 Baltimore on April 6, 1979.  He's as feisty as ever, and kids of all ages love him.

We also got to see the newest member of the Herrera family, as Veronica brought out their new puppy "Fender".  He was definitely a hit with everyone that came by to visit, and helped raise the spirits of several folks, as you can see from the photo!

We're really looking forward to next years event.  Aside from a little sunburn, (the sun was REALLY shining), you couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day.  We hope we see you next year!

Recent Fund Raiser at American Legion Post 40

Oracle returned to the American Legion Post 40 in Glen Burnie last weekend for an evening of dancing, eating, and lots of fun.  Sponsored by the Legion's Ladies Auxiliary, the dance helped generate money for their many worthwhile projects.

Ladies Auxiliary fundraiser dance at American Legion Post 40 Glen BurnieIt's been a little while since we've been over there, but we got a chance to see lots of our friends there who attend every performance we have at this wonderful location.

It is always a pleasure to look out on the dance floor and see so many wonderful dancers out there enjoying themselves.  It doesn't matter whether you are 28 or 78...everyone has a great time.

As always the Oracle cameras were on hand to document the evening and let everyone who was not there know just how much fun we had, so you won't miss out on the next appearance there, which will be for Valentine's Day 2009.  The cool thing is about this coming year is that Valentine's Day actually falls on a Saturday for a change, so this one is sure to sell out fast.

Anyway, check out the American Legion Post 40 Glen Burnie Photo Gallery and either relive the evening, or see what you missed out on.  Hopefully we'll see you there in February!

Recently at Whispers Nightclub & Restaurant

Saturday Night at Whispers in Glen Burnie Maryland. Click for enlarged viewA few  weeks ago Oracle performed a weekend show at Whispers Restaurant in Glen Burnie Maryland.

Both evenings were so much fun we just had to share them with everyone.  Unfortunately the slumping economy seems to have put a bit of a damper on our friends' ability to come out to spend an evening out, and we certainly understand.  It was still very nice to see so many of our faithful Oracle "family" members over the course of the weekend.

Although the size of the crowd is important for a club to continue to offer live entertainment, for the band our motto is that it's not the quantity of the crowd but the QUALITY of the people, and Oracle fans are definitely on the top of the list.

Saturday Night at Whispers in Glen Burnie Maryland. Click for enlarged viewIn addition to the Oracle regulars we got the opportunity to meet a lot of new friends who have now subscribed to the newsletter and will be attending future Oracle Band performances.

We've mentioned this before, but it always seems that no matter how wild and crazy a Friday night at Whispers gets, Saturday comes along and things get even MORE interesting!  This past weekend was no exception, with a couple of large groups celebrating birthdays and lots of new faces we've never had a chance to meet before.

We've got all of the photos from the evening posited now, so head on over to the following photo galleries and check out the festivities!

Independence Day Concert at Laurel Lakes a HUGE Success

On July 5th Oracle had the thrill of performing for the concert prior to the City of Laurel Independence Day fireworks display, and an audience of literally tens of thousands came out to hear Oracle perform.

We're still getting the photo pages edited and neatly formatted, but we want to get all of the photos online as quickly as possible, so you will be able to find ALL of them on a single page at the temporary Laurel Independence Day Concert Photo Gallery.

The animated photo above shows a series of photos taken from the stage, beginning around 3:00 when we were setting up, to the moments just before the fireworks when the crowd stretched as far as the eye could see.

Thousands of people caught the Oracle Band as we performed for the City of Laurel Maryland Independence Day celebrationAll of the Independence Day activities were dedicated to Corporal Richard Findley, a ten year veteran of the Prince Georges County Police Department, who had been killed in the line of duty a week earlier in Laurel.  Findley, a father of two daughters aged 9 and 6, was also active at the Beltsville Volunteer Fire Department. We mourn his passing and would like to offer our thoughts and prayers to his family and colleagues.

We'll have more information on this performance as time allows...it took almost all day Sunday to peruse, crop and edit the 800 some photos we took down to a more manageable 60+ pictures.  We'll make the gallery pages look prettier, and format them to accommodate folks with a dial-up connection within the next day or so.

Oracle Performs for Chocolate Ball!

One of the ornate cakes enterd to win the "People's Choice Award" at the Chocklate Ball. Click for enlarged view.On Saturday, March 15th Oracle had the privilege of performing at a benefit for The Arc of Howard County, affectionately dubbed "The Chocolate Ball".

In addition to a silent auction and raffles, area confectioners competed for the "People's Choice" award in designing the most elaborate chocolate confection, be it a cake or other delightful treat.  With a middle east theme, we saw flying carpet cakes, elaborate structures, magic lanterns, and a host of other ideas to inspire the imagination.

Just prior to the band taking the stage we were even treated to a performance by Oracle Band performs at Chocolate Ball 2008, supporting the Arc of Howard CountySamira Shuruk, an elegant, extremely talented, classically trained belly dancer.

The event was held in the lobby of the Kossiakoff Center at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics lab, a beautiful setting for such a worthwhile event.

The Arc of Howard County sponsors vocational and residential support and services, respite care, and other programs and services for children and adults with cognitive and developmental disabilities.

This was the third year in a row that Oracle has been invited to participate in this event, and we're pleased to announce that we have been invited back again next year, which we were of course thrilled to agree to.

Oracle Band performs at Chocolate Ball 2008, supporting the Arc of Howard CountyThe crowd that came out was simply wonderful.  The dance floor was filled almost immediately, and a great number of people stayed until the very end keeping the dance floor hopping all night long.

We took a lot of photos to document the evening, and you can view them all by heading over to the Arc of Howard County Chocolate Ball Photo Gallery.

We'd like to thank the folks at The Arc for inviting us, thank BB&T Bank for sponsoring the event, and especially thank all the people who came out to make this evening such a wonderful success!

Fun Photo

As many of you know, Steve, the band's trumpet player, drives a truck much of the time for a company that makes deliveries all over the eastern part of the United States.

Brooks & Dunn Truck passing guitar shaped museum - Bristol TennesseeOn a recent trip down to Hot Springs Arkansas, while passing through Bristol Tennessee, he was at a rest area opposite a rather unusual shaped building, a music museum shaped like a guitar.

While snapping a few shots of this rather unusual structure, who should pass by on the highway but one of the big rigs hauling the Brooks & Dunn show to their next gig!

The funny thing is, he didn't even notice the truck until going through the photos when he got back!

Click on the photo to see an enlarged view of this unusual building.
