This year the band took a break from tradition and performed for the first time on the grounds of Montpelier Mansion in Laurel. The grounds at Montpelier are spectacular. The stately Georgian mansion was constructed between 1781 and 1785, and hosted several historical figures of the day, including George Washington and Abigail Adams. Nestled on 70 acres of land just off the Baltimore Washington Parkway and Route 197, you wouldn't even know that you were so close to civilization by looking around. A hearty crowd came out for the concert in spite of the threatening weather, and notwithstanding a light pre-concert shower that raised a few umbrellas, the show came off without a hitch. Oracle and Mother Nature have always had a cordial relationship, so we weren't surprised when the skies cleared over Laurel, in spite of the fact that there were severe thunderstorm warnings in just about every surrounding community.
